Abstract This thesis aims to study the effect of new pregnancy, which may occur during the course of lactation, in milk composition. Conclusion: This is a cross sectional study to detect the effect of occurrence of new pregnancy in milk composition of already lactating mothers. Samples of milk were collected according to special criteria to make nearly matched groups. Two groups were classified. The first group (study group), milk samples were collected from pregnant lactating mothers with different periods of gestation. The second group (control group), milk samples were collected from lactating non pregnant mothers. Milk samples were analysed for fat, lactose, ash, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, total solids, total nitrogen and different nitrogenous compounds as alpha lactalbumin, casein, non casein and non protein nitrogen. The results of analysis show increase in total nitrogen and sodium and decrease in fat, lactose, calcium, potassium and magnesium. This means significant changes in milk composition during pregnancy. These changes may affect the health of the nursing baby and these need further evaluation. |
