Abstract S. T. In production, the main function is to decide what production facilities are required, how these production facilities should be laid out in the space available for production, and how they should be used to produce products. Thus the function has two main parts: (1) it is concerned with ”routing” or planning the sequence of work, and (2) it is concerned with ~layout” or planning the spatial relationship between the places where work is done. With regard to production planning, the function concerns with planning, directing and controlling the methods to be used to make products, and the way in which the production facilities, building, machines, equipment, etc. should be laid out in the space available for production. When choosing the method of production for an item to be used in an assembled product, it will be found generally that for each item there are seven decisions to be made. They are: 1.Whether to make or buy. 2. The material form and shape. 3. The division of thefiwork to be done into operations. 4. The choise of machine, or work centre, on which operation should be done. 5. The sequence in which the operations should be done. 6.The division into work elements. 7. the coice of special tooling. |
