Abstract

The aim of this study is to:
1- Find out the points of similarities between the different tuberculoid granulomas prevailing in Egypt if present.
2- Find out the clues for differentiation of each disease.
3- Correlate between the pathological findings (lymphocytic infiltrate) and the clinical severity.
4- Correlate between the pathological findings, integrity of the patient’s immunity using tuberculin test, and the lymphatic profile using immunoperoxidase stains.
In conclusion, there was no correlation between the infertilate of mononuclear cells and the clinical severity of tuberculoid granulomas. Patients with tuberculoid granulomas showed a good cell mediated immunity as they displayed a moderate to strongly positive mantoux test, preponderance of monocuclear cells, absence of causative organisms, and absence of caseation necrosis in the granulomas. Thus, cell-mediated immunityseems to be important in the pathogenesis of tuberculoid granulomas.
Immunohistochemical studies showed that B-Lymphocytes were absent in the tuberculoid lesions and that mature activated T-Lymphocytes, or monocytes, or both were present, Further immunohistochemical studies on T-Lymphocytes and histiocytes are necessary to determine whether mature-activated T-Lymphocytes constitute the majority of mononuclear cells in the granulomas or not.
