Abstract

The aim of this work is to detect lead in blood and semen among fertile and infertile men occupationally exposed and non-exposed to lead in order to evaluate the effect of lead on semen parameters and hence its effect on fertility.
In conclusion, it is apparent that long-term occupational exposure to lead leads to decrease in segment parameters and impaired fertility. The elevation of blood lead level among the infertile exposed subjects ensures the suggestion that lead exposure is directly incriminated as a cause of impaired fertility.
Thus, it is mandatory to recommend certain prophylactic measures in order to decrease lead exposure. These measures include the use of unleaded gasoline in a wide scale allover the country, improvement of car exhaust quality, factories concerning with lead as paint factories must be provided with filtered funnels this with prohibition of such factories from disposition of its waste products to the Nile and replacement of lead water pipes with polyethylene water pipes. Also, replacements of lead containing paints with lead free paints as well as unleaded insecticides. Regular clinical and toxicological checkup is also mandatory for workmen exposed to high lead levels.
