Abstract

csf prostaglandin level in infant and childhood intractable seizures abstract background: this study was conducted at the departments of pediatric, medical biochemistry and radiology, faculty of medicine, zagazig university, during the period of april 2003 to april 2007. objective: this work was done to study prostaglandin level and brain imaging ct and mri in the evaluation of different cases of intractable seizures. subjects and methods: the control group included 20 neurologically healthy subjects were subjected into csf and plasma prostaglandin e2 determination. the study group included fifty patients of both sexes suffering from intractable seizures (difficult to treat, failure of 2 or more first-line antiepileptic medications to control seizures in children who experienced one or more seizures per month for 18 months) were subjected into full clinical history, laboratory investigation, eeg, neurological imaging and csf and plasma prostaglandin e2 determination. generalized seizures were found in 26 and partial seizures were found in 24 patients results: there was a highly significant increase (p<0.001) of both plasma and csf pg-e2 in epileptic group as compared to those in control group. the partial epileptic patients had a highly significant increase (p<0.001) of both plasma and csf-pge2 as .
