The aim of this work is to evaluate the benefits or hazards of physical training early following acute myocardial infarction on the physical and psychological status of the patients.
Results
The results of the study showed that in the exercised group the resting heart rate was significantly lower than that on control group. There was significant reduction of sensation of fatigue, during exercise test ECG and also reduction of extrasystol.
The results of the study also showed that their was improvement in both anxiety and depressive symptoms before discharge compared with that on admission which is more significant in the group of rehabilitation than control group.
There was also significant improvement in number and score of depression and anxiety symptoms in group of rehabilitation predischarge compared with control group.
Furthermore, there was a correlation between duration of exercise and the number and score of anxiety symptoms before discharge.
It is concluded that short-term supervised exercise training after recent uncomplicated myocardial infarction results in reduced heart rate and decrease fatigue, and extra systole.
The exercise training was also sufficient to bring psychological benefits as reduction of the feelings of depression and anxiety and promotes a feeling of well being.
Based on results of this study, we definitely recommend the use of early supervised program in patients with acute MI in all coronary care units.
