Abstract
Medical malpractice is a term of broad significance. It may be defined as ”any professional misconduct or any unreasonable lack of skill in the performance of professional duties”. Also it has been defined as improper treatment through carelessness, ignorance, or intentionally negligence. Information about new medical technologies should be included in programs to reduce the incidence of medical errors.
Medical malpractice case can be brought against physicians for any of the following reasons, medications errors, improper diagnosis, failure to diagnose, lack of informed consent, abandonment, surgical procedures errors or mistakes during surgery(e.g . surgical instruments left inside the patient’s body after surgery), or lack of careful postoperative care.
This study is both a prospective and retrospective study performed on patients of claimed medical malpractice in Egypt And it aims at reassessment of the malpractice cases and its evaluation in Egypt Subjects of this study were the patients of claimed medical malpractice who attained the Medicolegal department in Great Cairo and El-Minya governorate during the period of two years duration from January 1st. 2002 to January 1st. 2004.
