Abstract

This study included 80 patients. The study showed a significant increase in aminotransferases levels in hepatocellular carcinoma (HC) patients with no effect in patients with colorectal carcinoma (CC). Alkaline phosphatase and gamma-glutamytransferase also significantly increased in HC patients, and to a lesser extent in the CC patients. The IgA levels, alpha-1-antitrypsin, alpha-1-glycoprotein, serum ferritin, alpha-1-fetoprotein and carcinoembryonic antigen levels increased in both hepatocellular and colorectal carcinoma groups.
the finding of elevated aminotransferases levels in hepatocellular carcinoma patients ( with AST higher than ALT) indicates the importance of such determinations in liver functions to assess the patients condition and to differentiate group from the other one with colorectal carcinoma showing no elevations in aminotransferases levels.
