Abstract

Aim of the work
To clarify the state of platelet activation in the three trimesters of pregnancy and also in cases of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.
Conclusion
Pregnancy is a companied by significant alterations of platelet function. Platelet activity can be determined by measurement of plasma levels of secreted platelet proteins.
The finding of significant elevated levels of PF4 in preeclampatic patients could be used as a measure of platelets activation in preeclampatic patients.
Its estimation could be of value for prophylaxis against thrombotic complications in these risky patients.
The finding of significant reduced platelet count in patients with preeeclampsia, support the evidence of platelet consumption and activation in preeclampatic patients.
The significant low levels of blood urea during 2nd and 3rd trimesters may be attributed to +ve nitrogen balance during these periods.
The significant elevated levels of serum uric acid in preeclampatic patients, is an evidence of renal involvement or impairment when other metabolic end products as plasma creatinine or urea remain within normal range.
