Abstract
Successful antimycotic therapy is still a demanding challenge in clinical medicine. We aimed to study potential interactions of griseofulving and ketoconazole which are two antifungals of common medical use , with some members of the quinolones ( antibacterials ) using candida albicans as an indicator organism. We found that nalidixic acid by itself showed antifungal activity in high doses. This effect was dose-dependent. Combination of nalidixic acid with ketoconazole showed no difference at all concentrations, while its combination (at 32 mg/ml) with griseofulvin (8 mg/ml) was more fungistatic than griseofulvin alone. Norfloxacin showed no antifungal activity by itself while its comination with the antimycotics showed partical antagonism. Ofloxacin had antimycotic activity at concentrations of 4 and 2 mg/ml. its combination with ketoconazole (4 mg/ml) was significantly fungistatic.
