Abstract The aim of the work was the suggestion that RA may be due at least to auto-immunization to collagen. So, the aim of the work was to detect the relation between anticollagen antibodies type II in patients with RA and severity of the disease. In order to clarify the role of autoimmunity to collagen in pathogenesis of RA, the need arose for certain serological assay for anticollagen antibodies. Recently an improved ELISA was developed to diminish non-spesific background interference and proved higher sensitivity. Based on this assay system it was found that anticollagen antibodies in RA patients are specific to type II collagen. In the present study , we have extend the prvious observations and examined the sera from patients with various stages of RA for the incidence of antibody type II collagen, and have looked at the circulating antibodies in RA patients with involvement of a single joint at the onset. |
