Abstract The present study was designed to investigate the effect of long-term use of DMPA on some vital biochemical parameters. Thus, the development of effective strategies for limiting deleterious effect of the drug by developing and complementing other therapeutic approaches during DMPA administration become necessary. In conclusion, DMPA should be considered as a safe and convenient contraceptive for appropriately selected women. However, DMPA must not be used for women who have a history of hepatic disorder and unfavorable in women who have susceptibility to cardiovascular disorder. So, it must be used in combination with estrogen and \ or natural antioxidant such as vitamin E ( α - tocopherol) or selenium (an essential trace element ) or with natural lipotropic factor such as eicosa pentanoic acid (EPA), or garlic extract to reduce the deleterious effect of the drug. In addition, it must be recommended to monitor LDL-C\HDL-C ratio all over the period of DMPA administration. |
