The present investigation aimed to study the effect of puberty & menopause on systolic blood pressure, estradiol hormone, serum electrolyte (Na+& K+), lipid profile, renal blood flow (velocity & resistance) and vascular reactivity to NE Forty female albino rats of different ages were used in this study. They were divided into 3 main groups: Prepubertal group, pubertal group and menopausal group. The first group was selected between two to four weeks. The second group was selected between six to twelve months; it was divided into 2 subgroup; pubertal (preovulatory) & pubertal (postovulatory) groups, preovulatory group was selected in proestrous phase. Postovulatory group was selected in metestrous phase. The third group was selected between fifteen to eighteen months In the previously mentioned groups, all rats were fasted for 12 hour; blood pressure (mmHg) was measured using rat-tail sphygmomanometer technique. After that reto-orbital samples were collected for estimation of estradiol hormone, fasting serum sodium, potassium and lipid profile. Then rats were anesthetized for measurement of renal blood flow velocity and resistance. At the end of the experiment, the thorax of each rate was opened and aortic strip was taken for recording the effect of norepinephrine on their contractile activity 1- Preovulatory group showed significant increase in systolic blood pressure, estradiol hormone, fasting serum electrolyte (Na+ & K+), serum HDL and renal blood flow velocity and significant reduction in fasting serum cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, renal vascular resistance & vascular reactivity to norepinephrine while there’s insignificant increase in HDL/total cholesterol when compared to the corresponding values in prepubertal group 2- Postovulatory group showed significant decrease estradiol hormone & fasting serum Na+ and significant increase in fasting serum K+ while there is insignificant increase in systolic blood pressure, serum cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, renal vascular resistance & vascular reactivity to norepinephrine and insignificant decrease in serum HDL, HDL/total cholesterol and renal blood flow velocity when compared to the corresponding values in preovulatory group 3- Menopausal group showed significant decrease estradiol hormone, fasting serum K+, serum HDL, HDL/ total cholesterol and renal blood flow velocity and there’s significant increase systolic blood pressure, fasting serum Na+, serum cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, renal vascular resistance and vascular reactivity to norepinephrine when compared to the corresponding values in preovulatory group.
