This study is case series study. it was conducted in Ain Shams University hospital of obstetrics and gynecology during the period from October 2007 to July 2008 to investigate if there is a correlation between bacteria in vagina, cervix and endometrium in various uterine pathological conditions. All patients were notified by procedure and written consent was taken from each patient. Then patients were subjected to: History taking to detect Inclusion and Exclusion criteria, general and local examination, vaginal PH measurement before taking specimens. Cervico vaginal specimens taken immediately before the operation, the cervix was exposed with an unlubricated dry sterile cusco speculum. Three swabs were taken from cervical os and the posterior fornix of the vagina. The swabs were only inserted (2-3) mm into the cervical canal to minimize the risk of contaminating the lower part of the uterus with microorganisms from the cervical os. One swap was used for preparation of direct vaginal Gram stained smear. The second swab was used for isolation of aerobic bacteria and the third swab was transported to the laboratory in Robertson cooked meat media for isolation of anaerobic bacteria.
