Abstract

In our attempt to look for a reproducible method of bone blood flow monitoring we used the canine as an animal model that was recommended by many experimental researchers. The tibia of the canine was exposed surgically and the blood flow was measured. the elemental verification of the components of the bone blood flow was measured. We found the tibial nutrient artery has 22% shares in the total blood flow of canine tibia. The other research group was the allograft group; we stored the tibia with its vascular pedicle for 24 hours in the UW solution at 4C. The tibias were divided into two groups, one group was treated with cyclosporine a and the other was not treated. On the second day both tibias were replanted as a vascularized allograft on a recipient canine. The blood flow was monitored also by laser Doppler flowmeter (LDF) and recorded over one hour total time for reperfusion. The CYA treated tibia got blood flow and maintained it after one hour while the non-treated tibias failed to maintain its initial blood flow. we concluded that the LDF was reliable, reducible and repeatable for measuring the bone blood flow.
