Abstract

The Aim Of This Is To Develop A Real-Time Model That Accounts For The Transient Behavior Of Pressure And Flow-Rate Profiles In A Pipeline Network. The Thesis Also Involves Computational Pipeline Monitoring (CPM) And Simulation Of Pipeline Conditions Using Advanced Models That Describes The Fluid Behavior In Pipeline Networks. The Conservation Laws Of Linear Momentum, Angular Momentum, Energy And Mass Are Typically Applied In The Modeling Process. Empirical Relations Based On Experimental Observation Are Also Integrated Into The Constitutive Relations For The Conservation Laws.
During Normal Operation, The Pipeline Conditions Are Simulated And The State Variables Of The Pipeline Such As The Pressure And Flow-Raye Are Computed In Real Time Based On Simulated Measurements Of Pipeline Variables Collected At Few Selected Locations Along The Pipeline. Modern Methodology Of Control Theory Including Kalman Filter State Estimation Is Employed F0r Leak Detection And Localization.
