Abstract
The stresses induced on the abutment supporting structures by overdenture retained by telescopic crowns exhibiting different taper 0, 6, 12 angles were evaluated using strain gauge analysis.
Three identical acrylic mandibular models with the canines as abutment teeth were used for this study .These models replicate the anatomic features of the teeth, their investing structures and the mucosa covering the ridge .
The abutments were prepared with different taper angles for each model (0, 6 and 12) .Primary copings were constructed and cemented on the abutments.
Three mandibular overdentures retained by telescopic retainers were constructed following the same design .Overdentures only differed in the taper angle of the primary copings.
Four channel strain meter was used to asses and recored the strains induced the buccal , the lingual , the mesial and the distal walls of the abutments.
