Abstract In the present work , the histological and histochemical changes observed in the adrenal cortical cells of the three weeks undernourished rats indicated that the adrenal cortex was in a state of increased secretory activity. All hormone precursors had increased and anzymes utilized for hormone synthesis showed increased activity. On the other hand, the histological and histochemical changes in the cortical cells of the six weeks undernourished rats indicated hypofunction of the adrenal cortex where hormone precursors became depleted and enzyme activity were decreased. On rehabilitation the adrenal cortex could nearly return to its normal histological and histochemical features. |
