المستخلص This thesis presents a new location management technique for cellular mobile communication networks. Location management is an essential service in mobile communication networks. The location update and search are the two important parts of any location management technique. There is a trade-off between location update and search, when a mobile terminal moves. The proposed location management technique is introduced with its two parts to reduce the overhead produced when the mobile terminals frequently move to the same regions. Current location management techniques (such as GSM) are done inefficiently lI1 this case. The proposed location management technique is based on registration or valuable information about the subscriber such as the visited cells, and the time at which these cells were visited. These two variables are considered very important from technical part of view. Then, the registered information will be used to build a profile for each subscriber. These profiles will be used to predict the subscriber location for incoming calls. So, the proposed technique is a memory based technique and it depends on the habits of the subscribers or subscribers’ movements. The performance of the proposed technique is evaluated in terms of the total cost of location updates and searches. The proposed technique and the other techniques are implemented and simulated. The simulation results are used to compare between these techniques. |
