Abstract

Brassinolide (BR) and α – tocopherol play an important role in growth, metabolic activities and productivity of wheat plants.
Brassinolide (0.05, 0.10 and 0.20 ppm) or α–tocopherol(400, 800 and 1600 ppm) significantly increased all growth
parameters through the experimental period in addition to photosynthetic pigments, soluble sugars and total carbohydrate contents, nitrogenous constituents, nucleic acid contents,
macroelement contents (N, P, K, Ca and Mg) and endogenous promoters (IAA, GAs and cytokinins) of wheat shoots.
Foliar application of BR or α tocopherol increased yield and yield attributes of treated plants. In addition, all treatments increased the carbohydrate contents, nitrogen fractions, mineral contents of yielded grains. The protein electrophoretic pattern of yielded grains induced the appearance of new set of protein
bands at molecular weights 205.17 and 65.95 KDa in response to BR treatments, and at molecular weights 205.17, 185.4, 77.95, 65.95 and 55.76 KDa in response to α–tocopherol treatments. The
most effective concentrations were 0.05 ppm BR and 800 ppm α-tocopherol.
