Abstract

The aim of this study was to study the effect of the botulinum toxin on the ultrastructure changes of the myocytes of the detursor muscle in case of overactive bladder of non neurogenic origin.
This study was done in May 2005. Study duration was 48 months. Subjects were taken from the Urology Departments of Ain Shams University Hospitals.
All eligible patients signed an informed consent form before the treatment. Patients included were with the complaint of urge (sudden compelling desire to void which is difficult to defer), urge incontinence and urodynamically demonstrable detrusor overactivity who filed to respond to various antimuscarinics.
A total number of patients was 50, their ages range from (26 – 60) admitted to Ain Shams University Hospitals for botulinum toxin type A injection due to idiopathic overactive bladder resistant to anticholinergic treatment.
All patients were evaluated by:
1. Medical history
2. Voiding diary.
3. ICIQ.
4. Physical examination.
5. Laboratory investigations
6. Radiological investigations
7. Full urodynamic examination.
