Abstract

The flow induced vibration in heat exchanger is usually considered as detrimental factor for causing the heat exchanger damage and is strictly prevente from its occurrences. After the thermal design stage, a check for FlY is carried 0 and if the tubes are susceptible to FlY, excitation sources are identified an corrective action is taken. Tube vibration can be reduced to within limits by eithe increasing the tube natural frequency or reducing the cross flow velocity 0 suppressing the source of excitation or avoid too small or too large baffle cut since both yield poor velocity distribution and high localized velocities.
This thesis, clarify and evaluate the new design of shell and tube heat exchange exciting in Abu Qir Fertilizers Company (Ammonia Plant Ill), after replacing th old design by a new one by increasing the number of baffles and adjusting th baffle spacing to reduce FlY which had taken place in the old design, by usin HTRI program.
The document explains in details the methods that reducing and preventing FlV the equations were used for program calculations and comparison between the 01 and new design performance.
The data in this document was collected carefully from trustful references, published studies (World Wide Web), scientific published papers and data sheets of waste heat recovery design in APC.
