Abstract This work was conducted en to study the left ventricular Function in uremic patents undergoing regular Hemodialysis. before and after a Hemodialysis session Patients subjected to this work included 31 uremic Patients under Hemodialysis, 24 males and 7 females. Their mean age was 30.4 years (range 17 42 years). Their mean time of hemodialysis was 19.9 months (range 2-60 months). Hemodialysis treatment was performed using a Travenol ulalyser (HF Modell 15 – 11) of a surface area approximately 1.0 m2. All patients had an upper limb arterio-venous fistula. For comparison. we chose lU uremic patents with hypertension. treaded conservatively. 7 males, and 3 females. their mean age was ~5.5 years (range 29 – 44 years). also ten hypertensive patents With normal renal functions maintained on antihypertensive medications. 7 males and 3 females. their mean age was 35.2 years(range 22 - 40 years) were taken [or comparing the effect of hyper tens ion on left ventricular [unction’s. 10 individuals within the same age range were chose~ as a control group. They were normotensives and with normal renal function tests. 7 were males and 3 were females, their mean age was 35.2 years (range 22 40 years). Those with evident clinical features of heart failure. pericardial heart diseases. ischemic heart disease. collagen vascular disease. and diabetes me1l1tus. were excluded. Ever individual was subjected to fui1 history taking. thorough cynical examlnat10n, hemodynamic assessment. b10chemlcal ScUG1eS 1nc1uding blood urea, serum creatin1ne. serum sodium, serum potassium. Serum calcium, serum phosphorus. 1n addition to hemoglobin concentrat1on of blood. pH of arterial blood and blood gases, An e1ectrocard10gram. M-mode and two dimensional Electrocardiogram were performed to every individual . but 1n hemod1a1ysls patients. these measures were done twice. before and after a hemodialysis session. (AI We studied first, the effect of hypertension on left ventr1cular function by comparing a group of hypertensive patents with normal renal function tests. Versus a group of norm tension and normal renal function tests. Hemodynamic ally . hypertens1ve pat1ents showed significant decrease of mean stroke index, mean cardiac index. but showed slgn1ficant 1ncr~ase of mean left ventricular cardiac ’mass. Slgnlflc,nt lower level of mean serum sodium character1zed the hypertensive group. |
