Abstract

Subarachnoid haemorrhage is responsible for 25% of all fatalities related to stroke. It may be associated with an array of severe disturbances in intracranial and systemic physiology that represent a unique challenge to the clinician. As clinical experience with the coiling technique has increased and technological advances in coil design and adjunctive methods have improved, endovascular treatment has been used with increasing frequency. However, evidence of a direct relationship between aneurysmal SAH outcomes and a specific strategy or intervention is still limited. Hence, we aimed in this study to report our outcome results and to recognize the magnitude of influence of different factors on the clinical and angiographic outcomes of patients suffering from SAH due to ruptured cerebral aneurysms and managed by endovascular aneurysm coiling. We conducted a follow-up study on such patients presented to the university hospital, in the period from January 2008 to November 2009, and who underwent aneurysm coiling using multiple techniques and different types of coils, on a diverse range of aneurysm locations and sizes. This study included a total of 203 patients, of them 117 (57.6%) were males and 86 (42.4%) were females with age range 27 to 91 years.
All patients were subjected to clinical and neuroradiologic examinations on admission to the hospital in the form of detailed history, clinical examination, and neuroradiologic investigations (CT brain, MRA and Diagnostic Angiography). Additionally, all patients were assessed on hospital admission by a full battery of scales; HH, Fisher, Classen, GCS, WFNS, and NIHSS scales.
