Abstract

Substance abuse relapse is engrained into the mind of most of addictive persons because 70-90% of them face the possibilities of relapse once they have initiated cessation of drug use. In the fact, relapse episodes are resulting from failure of effective coping with many psychosocial high risk factors which could cause the patient to use drugs in spite of his commitment to abstain such as craving and drug temptation, negative or positive mood state, negative physical state, testing of personal control, family or others relationship conflicts, social and peer pressures to use substances, and treatment related barriers against abstinence. This relapse has serious consequences on the patient’s life because it is leading to chronic physical deterioration, social or illegal problems in addition to other co morbid psychiatric disorders.
