Summary
Nowadays there is increasing in the using of antibacterial drug residues in the animal farms without control; this using not only for protection or treatment but to increase the growth rates to get much money by illegal ways. Recent studies proved that these residues have many hazards if consumed by man.
Therefore the aim of this study is the detection of the antibacterial drug residues in different tissues and organs of the slaughtered food animals.
Six hundred samples from slaughtered cattles and one hundred samples from slaughtered baffaloes were collected in Assiut city, each from kidneys and muscle tissues for detection of antibacterial drug residues.
The four plate method has proved to be more convenient for detection of antibacterial drug residues.
Diaphragm and kidney samples represent the carcass status antibacterial drugs of contents.
Samples for antibacterial drug residues investigation can be taken without surface sterilization.
It was found that the highest percentages were present in kidney tissues in all slaughtered carcasses.
These percentage were:
1. Cattles: It was 21.3%, 4% in kidney and muscle tissues respectively at pH 6.0 and 18.7%, 4% in the same tissues at pH 7.2, while it was 12.3%, 3.3% at pH8.0 (Bacillus subtilis) and it was 5.7%, 2.7% at pH 8.0 (Micrococcus luteus).
2. Baffaloes: It was 12%, 6% in kidney and muscle tissues respectively at pH 6.0 and 10%, 6% in the same tissues at pH 7.2 and it was 10%, 4% in samples of kidney and muscle tissues at pH 8.0 (Bacillus subtilis), while it was 8%, 4% at pH 8.0 (Micrococcus luteus).
The different methods of prevention and control have been discussed for protection of the consumer from the hazards of antibiotic residues in meat.
