Abstract

This study was carried out on forty clinically healthy male boskat rabbits . All rabbits were two mouths in age and nearly with the same average body weight. Eight rabbits were used to ob tain the nonnal data of body weight, stomach to cecum transit time and digestibility at different stages of experimentation.
Thirty two rabbits were divided into four equal groups. All groups were subjected to 65% small bowel resection. The first group was used as a control (IR). In the second group artificial valve was performed (IR-t-AV). The third group was subjected to reverse segment (IR+RS) The fourth group was exposed to both ar— tificial valve and reverse segment (IR+AV+RS)
Mortality rate, weekly body weight, stomach to cecum transit time and digestibility (at one and three months following operation) were determined in all rabbits of the operated groups.
The control group (IR) showed high mortality rate, diarrhae, steatorrhae, loss of body weight and rapid transit time.Digestibiflty results of this group (IR) either at one or three mouths following operation indicated the lowering of the total digestible nutrients and digestion coefficients in addition to decrease absorption of different nutrients including dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, ether extract, crude fibre and nitrogen free extract.
