Abstract

Intravenous induction of general anaesthesia, was carried out on 72 sheep and goats of different sex, age and body weight.
- Nesdonal (specia) premedicated by Neurazine and stropine sulphate, resulted in a surgical anaesthetic a.tage lasting for an average period of 30 minutes and accompanied with complete muscle relaxation for sheep. The drug proved to bey unsatisfactory for goats.
- Chloral Hydrate as a 9% solution indectea intraven¬ously in sheep and goats at a does rate of 110.3 mg •. per kg. and 89.6 m~./kg. bwt. respectively, provoked a state of deep general anaesthesia lasting for an average period of 45 minutes in sheep and 47.5 minutes in goats. This procedure proved to be sufficient for performing minor as well as some illujor surgical operations.
- Ketalar (Park Dvis) injected intravenously produced a state of general anaesthesia lasting for 38.3 minutes and 30.8 minutes in sheep and goats respectively. This procedure p~rmitted immediate surgery. When injected intramuscularly the anaesthetic period ~asted for an average period of 20 minutes in sheep and 12 minutes in goats. Ketalar 5% was injected both i.v. and i.m. at a dose of 13;L3 mg./kg.bwt. for sheep and 10 mg./kg.bwt. for goats. Douplication of the dose injected i.m. resulted in an anaesthetic period of 45
minut(;s in sheep and 25 minutes in goats in average •. This.
