Abstract
In this study, the effect of progesterone alone or in combination with diethylnitrosarnine on hepatic tumourigen— esis was studied. br Four experinental groups, each of twenty rats equally divided according to sex (ten males and ten females), were treated as follows : br group A : served as untreated controls. br group B : each animal received subcutaneous injections of br 3 mg. of progesterone dissolved in 0.09 ml. corn oil and 0.01 ml. benzyl—benzoate. The injections were three times weekly. br group C : each animal received daily dose of 5 m, of diethylnitrosamine per kg. of body weight in br da’inking water six days per week. br group D : each animal in this group received both sucutan-eous inj ections o± 3 mg. progesterone three times weekly and daily dose of 5 mg. of diethylnitros amine per kg. of body weight six days weekly. br Treatment of the animals was continued in all instances until the time of death or sacrifice. The experiment was br terminated aiter eight months.
