Abstract The purpose of this study is to analyze the economic problems of production of some major crops. The crops studied are wheat, maize, cotton and summer onion. The ultlmate objective of this study is to achieve the economic efficlency in the use of tne Scaree fActors of production • The study contains six chapters in addition to tne introduction and the conclusion. It depen~ed on second data from official sources in addition to data collected by a questionaire directed to 200 farms in Kalubia govern orate .Analyses of data ueed descriptive and quantit1ve methods • The results 1) Most of the farms didnot Use the factors of production efficiently, production could be increased by increasing the use of factors such as the animal work phosphate fertilizer and manure , also by decreasing the use 6f factors of production which have neg~tive effects i.e. mech~nical work and nitrogen fertilizer. 2) Estimating the optimum quantity of per feddan of the areas less than feddan in wheat, maize ,it ~rtS nbout 18.9 and 39.95 ardeb respectively. For the are~5 of 3 01 mere feddans ,cotton it reached 7.275c”t /’feddan,usin€ all the sample data t the optimum quantity of production . less than the optimum level • ~) Estimating the profitability per feddan net income ~er investerl unit of money (Egyptian pound) and value-added return • the study revealed th~t wheat Achieved the highest mon ey re turns per the season ’1 sit reached abou t L. 1::.297 •.55 55.74 per feddan of official ~nd free rent respectively for holding category (1-~) feddans fallowed by ma1zc,which reach about L.E. 100.55 ,17.61 per feddan • Profitability of cott reached Rbout L.E. 65.09,215.97 per feddan in cas~s of official and frp.e rent for haIrline category (less than one feddan ) • for the Same cases and category. As for the net return per While the onion achieverl a loss about L.E.2.25,52.23 pound, the wheat achieved the highest and was about 0.69, O.Ob in ~gyptian pounds. for the same cases and category (1-3) feddans , followed by maize which re~ched about L.E.0.244 for holding category (less than one feddan ) 1n case oC official rent and ~bout L.E.O.3 for the season with holding category (1-3) fedd3ns in case of free rent • The production of cotton was about 0.115,0.26 in Egyptian Pounds for the holding categorY(less than one feddan) in the cases of the official and free rents ,respectively • The net return per poRnd for onion was about 0.006,0.084 in Egyptian Pounds in both Cases of rent. AlEO , wheat achieved the high-est add-value per feddan which W8G about L.~. u63.65 for category (1-3) feddans followed by cotton which waG about L.E.550.5.for category(3 feddans ~~~~~-- -- --- and more) • Then, comes maize which was about L.E.~2~.86 for the previous catego~y ,finally onion which w~s about L.E. 219.951 • The study shows that the problemSfaced the agricUltural sector are as follows; 1) Insufficient fertilizer ratios ~nd their limited distribution. 2)The lack of agricul tural l.”l’boureree~’peciallyat harvest time which results in higher wages. 3) Wide spread of rats. 4)Low selling price of crops. 5) Insuffiecent feed ratios • 6-Inadequate water for irrigation. 7)Lack of canal dredging up • 8) Low profitability of crops. 9) High pr,icesof pesticides • 10) The intensive Care required by some crops at certain stclgesof growth • In order to overcome these problems , the study recommends increasing the fertilizer ratios , providing adequate water for irrigation , improving rat control & enCouraging people to partaka in effective control proc~ures against rats J decreasing the prices of insecticides ,introducing new seed species to attain the goal of increasing the crops Quant1t1vely and qualititively, using selective machinery suitable for the holding s1~e and the prevailing condttions in general |
