Radio is one of audience communication means by
which we can reach all people easily neglecting illiteracy and
geographical barriers, and through it we can reach also special
groups such as old people. children. low learners. learners and
people who are difficult to reach with other communication
means. Moreover, Radio doesn’t need an effort from auditence
and it is an easy mean which makes these people aware of what
is happening.
Radio is found in every house . and the farmer can get all
valuable information easily through using it and this doesn’t
need writing or reading skills . Furthermore , it plays a great role
in agricultural extension field, because it presents different
information about modern agricultural ideas. In addition, it
becomes a necessity of wide and rapid spread necessities for
useful information for the farmers . Therefore. this helps the
agricultural extensionists in giving healthy information and clear
facts or modern scientific methods, specially in agricultural
production and generally in rural development.
The local broadcasts importance is presented in
answering the needs which the central broadcast can’t answer
them for the local society. Each local broadcast, besides
presenting information. culture and entertainment, should have
a speical necessity which links it with life in its local society.
Also, the local broadcasting responsibility is presented in
human rebuilding and participating in society change through
catching up with modern science.
Regarding the rural programs importance for farmers and
their role in changing farmer’s information, practices and
attitudes, a content - analysis study’s for these to determine
the relavance of offered subjects for farmers and their
achievment of the desired goals.
from all the previous , this research is conducted aiming at :
Determining the fields and contents of the subjects
mentioned in the broadcasting programs.
Studying the content of the fruits agricultural subjects
which are transmitted in ”MyDear farmers” program.
Determining the fruit • information sources which are
transmitted in ”MyDear farmer” program.
Determining the form categories and presenting style of
the program content of’ My Dear farmer program” .
Identifying the educational impact of the program from
fruit farmer’s point of view.
Determining the educational impact level of the program.
Identifying the respondent farmer’s opinions in some
technicalities of fruit series.
Identifying the respondent farmer’s suggestions for the
program.
This study was conducted in Qualubia Governorate in
three districts according to the program content analysis findings
of the fruit series. They were Toukh district in kalkashanda
village, Khanka district in khanka city and Benha district in
Meit EI-Attar village.
To determine the respondent farmer’s sample 10% from
the farmers of the three studied areas have been selected.
Therefore. the total number was 242 respondent. But while
collecting the final data using a prepared questionnaire which
included an intial question about the respondent’s auditior ,to
” My Dear farmer” program, 41 farmers were excluded
because they didn’t audit to the program. They were
excluded from the larmels sample to each crop. they were 23
farmers from fruits farmers. SO the sample amounted 116
farmers, 12 farmers from guava farmers. so the sample
amounted 59 farmers, and 6 Farmers from bananas Farmers,
thus the sample amounted 26 . Therefore the total number was
20 I farmers.
Content - analysis method was used to analyze the series
of fruit crops farmers to achieve its goal .
A questionnaire in an interview was used as aZool for
collecting data.
The study is divided into live chapters . Chapter (1) is the
Introduction, explaining the rationale of the research. study
objectives and limitations. Chapter (2) presents the review of
literature and previous studies. Chapter (3) explains the
research methodology. Chapter (4) presents the study findings.
and ( chapter - 5 ) presents the summary and recommedations .
Following are the most important findings of the study :
First: content analysis of the program series.
Conceriing the subjects content • presented within the
program, It has given the main concern to field crops.
the series were 267 one, whereas, the fruit series were
96 one.
Concerning the agricultural series of fruit crops presented
in the program. they have given the main interest to fruit
-crops • guava. grapes • bananas and mongoes . the series
number was 55 one from the total fruit series which were
96 one’, representing 57.92 % .
Concerning the series content of Fruit crops, they took
185 minutes during broadcasting. this represented
38.54 % from the total period for presenting Fruit series.
Regarding the Fruit series content. the program has given
the tunnel insect the great concern . that the series were 6 one
representing 27.3% from the alloted time for Fruit series. But.
concerining guava series content . it was found that the insects
subjects and their controlling methods were 4 series representing
26.7% from guava alloted time. Regarding the grapes series
content, it was found that cultivation methods were at the top
with a number of 2 series representing 25 % from the grapes
alloted time. It was found also that the banana series content
from the raising processes were 2 series representing 28.8%
from the banana alloted time . Otherwise , concerning the
mango series content, it was found that fertilization and
irrigation subjects were equal in this alloted time representing
33.33% from the mango alloted time. But concerning peach
series content, Pruning and manual thinning subjects were equal
in their alloted time representing 50% from peach series alloted
time. It was found also that. palm trees series content about
fertilization . spraying , irrigation and Bunch Bending were one
series for each subject, representing 50% from palm trees
alloted time .
Second : the sources from which the reportes can get their
information about fruit crops.
It was found that the agricultural specialisits were at the
top in editting the program material. They were 132 specialists
representing 49.4% . Whereas, the agricultural researchers were
84 researcher representing 31.5 % . But the farmers were 30
farmer representing 11.2% . finally the extension manuals were
21 manual representing 7.9% .
Third: the forms of presenting the program material
Concerning presenting the forms of the broadcasting
material for the fruit crops in My Dear farmer” program, it
was found that the content was in lour categories according to
its forms as follows : the direct speech got the high rank as it
took a long period which was 288 minutes representing 60 %
from the total alloted time of the presenting forms . then ,
information which took 104 minutes representing 21.7% from
the time alloted for all presenting forms. After that. mail was in
the third rank which took a period representing 10 (I/O from the
alloted time. finally. introductions conclusions were at the
back which took 40 minutes representing 8.3%
Fourth : Identifyin~ the educational inpact of ”My Dear
Farmer Pro~ram ” on fruit crops farmers.
a - Regarding the respondent fruit farmers , it was found that
the majority of them have discussed the recommendations
, presented in the program. with other farmers
representing 89.6% from all the program auditors and
81 % learnt from these recommendations where as 59.5%
from them implemented the recommendations. Thus,
this implementation for the recommendations had an
effect on increasing the production for 56.9% from the
fruit respondent Farmers. In addition, the increase in the
educational impact standard of” My Dear farmers
program” Series which were directed to the fruit
respondentFarmers.
b Regarding the respondent guava lkmes the majority of
them have discussed the recommendations . presented in
the program, with other farmers representing 69.5% from
all the. program auditors, and 79.6% learnt from these
recommendations. where as, 28.8% from them
implemented these recommendation. Therefore, these
implementation of the recommendations has an impact
on increasing the producation for 22 % from all the
respondent farmers auditors of guava. Also , the
decrease of an educational impact standard of these guava
farmer’s series.
c - Regarding banana respondent Farmers, those who have
discussed the recommendations . presentented in the
program. with other farmers were 34.6% . But 42.3%
from them have learnt from these recommendations.
where as 19.23 % from them- have implemented these
recommendations. subsequently this implementation of
the recommendation had an effect on maximizing the
production of 77% from the program auditors of banana
farmers . Furthermore. a decrease in the educational
impact standard of banana farmer’s series.
5 Summary
Fifth: the personal and communicative characteristics of the
respondents :
It was found that, the university youth who listen to the
Great Cairo broadcast were 73 respondent, representing 30.2%
from the total sample ( 242 respondent ). 72 respondent from
male representing 79.7% and one respondent from female
representing. 4% . but for low qualifications, they were 82
respondent representing 33.8 % from the total sample who
listened to this broadcast . 60 respondent from males
respresenting 24.8 % 22 respondent from females representing
9.9 % . ’Whereas the persons, who read and write and listened to
this broadcost were 24 respondent representing 9.9 % and all of
them were males. But the illiterate people who have auditted to
this broadcast were 22 respondent representing 9% and all of
them were females .
Sixth: the respondent farmer’s’ opinion in the standard of some
technicalities of the fruit series in ” My Dear lhrmer” program”:
according to the respondent farmers • it was found that the
program broadcasting time wasadequate and they were 156
farmer representing 77.6 % . But concenning the
recommendations broadcasting time • it was adequate and they
were 150 farme’s representing 74.6 % . Also, 144 farme’s
representing 71.6% found that the program content was adequhts
. In additions 139 farmer representing 69. I % found that the
presepting method was adequate. Also ~134 farmer
representing 66.6% found that presenting period was adequate.
Moreover· 128 farmers representing 63..68% found that the
program dialect was adequate. Whereas • the respondent
farmer’s opinion about the standard of these technicalities Was
low representing 21.89% . but it was medium representing
15.92%and it was high representing 62.19%
Seventh: the most important respondent’s suggestions to
maximize the benefits of My Dear farmer program” of the
studied crops .
These suggestions are as follows: the program reporter
should be specialist in agriculture and in hosting farmers in the
program. Replying on the auditor enquiries. finding soluations
for farmer’s problems with village banks. Increasing the
program period to 10 minutes or 15 minutes. Developing the
program subj ects . these subj ects should include marketing and
saving fields. simplfying the program dialect. finally addirig a
new subject for the program.
Form all the previous findings. the study has concluded
some applicable benefits which arc directed to the responsibles
for preparing and implementing the rural broadcasting programs
in the Great Cairo Broadcast. They are as follows:
I- Increasing the transmission time for the program, so as
to meet farmer’s pressing needs for such program. the
timing of transmission need to be adjusted for the wider -
benefit of the farming community. Most of the
respondents were in favor of evening transmission.
2 Ministry f Agriculture , Ministry of Information and the
target audience must work together to formulate the
program policies. Meeting for the component program
staff must be regu1ary convened to monitor goal
attainment through program evaluation.
3 Paying special attention to the agricultural programs
through enhancing and developing them with what meets
farmer’s needs from the agricultural recommendations,
also solving the problems to be more efficient.
4 conducting similar studies on the Radio agricultural
programs transmitted by the ten regional broadcasting to
evaluate their educational role within their respective
geographical scope .
5 Designing specialized programs, coveringplant produ;
cation, specially fruit crops.
6 Developing and upgrading the effeciency of the Radio
work in the Great Cairo broad cast within a lot of care.
