Although there were numerous studies dealing with the extension needs of farmers for different agricultural crops, all these studies were depended on the farmers themselves as a source f extension needs determination, that is in spite of what the refrances tell about many persons can be used as sources for needs assessment. Therefore, there was an urgant need to conduct this study to determine the similarities or the differances between these sources. Research objective :
The objectives of this study were summarized as follows:
1-Determine the differences between knowledge need degrees of farmers estimated from each of the Farmers, the Extension leaders, Villages Extension workers, Ex-tension Agents, Rice Extension Specialists, Extension Supervisors and Researchers related to the technical recommendations of rice crop. 2-Determine the differences between practice need degrees
of farmers estimated from each of the Farmers, the Extension leaders, Villages Extension Workers, Exten-sion Agents, Rice Extension Specialists, Extension Supervisors and Researchers related to the Technical
recommendations of rice crop.
3- Determine the differences between knowledge need degrees of farmers related to the recommendations of rice crop estimated from farmers themselves as a source and which were estimated from the point of view of each of the following sources : a-Extension leaders.
b-Villages Extension Workers.
c-Extension Agents.d-Rice Specialists.
e-Extension Supervisors.f-Researchers.
4- Determine the differences between practice need degrees of farmers related to the recommendations of rice crop estimated from the farmers themselves as a source and which were estimated from the point of view of each of the sources mentioned above.
To achive the study objectives the following procedures were carried out:
Seven groups of respondents were chosen in EL-Behara, Kaffer-EL-Sheikh and Dakahlia Governorates as follows:
182 Farmers, 77 Extension leaders, 66 Villages Extension Workers, 42 Extension Agents, 36 Rice Extension Specialists, 37 Extension Supervisors, 22 Researchers.Data were collected in summer of 1991 through personal interviews using a pretested questionnaires. Analysis of variance. Duncan test and ”T” test were the main statistical tools used for data analysis. The research findings were as follows : 1)There are significant differences between knowledge need degrees of farmers which estimated from each of Farmers, Extension leaders, Villages Extension Workers, Extension Agents, Rice Extension Specialists Extension supervisors, Researchers, related to each of the fol-lowing groups of rice crop recommendations:
Selection of the nursery land, nursery land preparation and fertilization, seeds selection, time of sowing, seeds quantity and preparation, nursery planting, nursery weed control, permanent field preparating and fertilizing, Permanent field transplanting, permanent field weed control, pest control and harvesting.
2)There are no significant differences between knowledge need degrees of farmers which estimated from the point of view of each of the sources mentioned above related to the group of rice crop irrigation recommendations.
3)There are significant differences between knowledge need degrees of farmers which estimated from the point of view of each of the sources mentioned above related to all the recommendations groups of Rice crop.
4)There are significant differences between practice need degrees of farmers which estimated from the point of view of each of the sources mentioned above related to each of groups of Rice crop recommendations: Selection of the nursery land, nursery land preparation and fertilization, time of sowing, Seeds quantity and preparation, nursery planting, nursery weed control, permanent field preparating and fertilizing, transplanting permanent field permanent field weed con-trol, irrigation and best control.5)There are no significant differences between practice need degrees of farmers which estimated from the point of view of each of the sources mentioned above related to the group of the harvest Rice crop recommendations.6)There are significant differences between practice need degrees of farmers which estimated from the point of view of each of the sources mentioned above related to all the recommendations groups of the Rice crop.7)There are no significant differences between knowledge need degrees of farmers which estimated from the farmers themselves and which estimated from the point of view of the Extension leaders.
8)There are significant differences between knowledge need degrees of farmers which estimated from the farmers themselves and which estimated from the point of view of the Village Extension Workers, Extension Agents, Rice Extension Specialests, Extension Super-visors, and the Researchers.9)There are no significant differences between practice need degrees of farmers which estimated from the farmers themselves and which estimated from the point of view of the Extension leaders.10)There are significant differences between practice need degrees of farmers which estimated from the farmers themselves and which estimated from the pdint of view of the Village Extension Workers, Extension Agents, Rice Extension Specialists, Extension supervisors and the Researchers.
