Abstract This thesis aims at studying the procedure which George Orwell follows to achieve a compromise between the political and the aesthetic purposes of a novel. This study involves a lot of aspects which should be put into consideration when dealing with political novels. First of all, a complete account of all the political issues and ideologies that took place in the 1940s is going to provide a fair comprehension of Orwell’s political beliefs. This perception of Orwell’s political beliefs and tendencies paves the way to delve deeper in Orwell’s two novels, which are written in the same period, Animal Farm (1945) and Nineteen Eighty-Four (1949). The tool of analysis that this thesis adopts to analyze Orwell’s two novels is a double-standard one. |
