Abstract A study on brucellosis in animals slaughtered in Upper Egypt was undertaken. A total number of 3134 cattle, buffaloes, camels and sheep blood sera samples were subjected to the serological examination by use the Rose Uengal plate test. The Rose Bengal test and the tube agglutination test gave sImilar results as follows: In cattle carcases, out of 1285 samples, 41 samples (3.18%) were positive with a titre ranged from 1/40 to 1/320 In buffaloes carcases, out of 1430 samples, 7 samples (0.48%) were positive with a titre ranged from 1/40 to 1/160. In camels carcases, out of 51 samples, 4 sampl~s (7.86%) were positive with a titre range from 1/40 to 1/160. In sheep carcases, brucellosis failed to be detected. The Rose Bengal test can be recommended as a prelimanary test for detection of Brucella positive animals incended for slaughter. |
