Abstract
This study was conducted to evaluate the spot incidence of congenital anomalies in the Obstetric Unit and NICU Of Zagazig University Hospitals from 1 January to 30June 2009.It focused on type of congenital anomalies, high risk and possible predisposing factors.
Full maternal history was taken as regards maternal age, consanguinity ,family history of anomalies, history of abortion, chronic diseases, complications of pregnancy ,mode of delivery and history of any teratogens exposure during pregnancy. Full clinical examination of the newborn focused on gestational age, birth weight, vital signs, jaundice, pallor, cyanosis, heart, CNS, abdomen, face, hair, skin and limb to detect any congenital anomalies. Investigation that was done include: routine investigation such as CBS,RH factor ,urine analysis blood sugar level organ imaging by X ray ,ULS ,MRI, and CT was done to suspected cases.Karyotyping was done for suspected cases of chromosomal abnormality.
