Abstract

Intracranial hemorrhage is recognized as a major health problem whether measured in cost, physician contacts, deaths or disability. This study had been designed to evaluate some medico-legal aspects of cases of intracranial hemorrhage admitted to Menoufiya university hospitals as regard demographic data, types, causes and radiological pattern. This study was conducted during the period from 1/1/2008 to 31/12/2008 Intracranial hemorrhage may be traumatic or pathological, but trauma is the most common cause of intracranial hemorrhage (traumatic cases exceed pathological ones during the period of study). Adding to that traumatic intracranial hemorrhage occurs in younger age groups leading to more miserable situation.Glasgow Coma Scoring at the time of presentation to the Emergency Department is an important prognostic factor and the level of consciousness should be determined and monitored regularly in all such patients Documentation and localization of intracranial hemorrhages using CT scan guides the neurosurgical intervention and is vital in the management of these patients.Unlike most neurological disorders, head injuries can be prevented by certain precautions such as wearing a helmet when riding a bicycle or motorcycle, wearing a seatbelt when driving or riding in a car, by keeping firearms and bullets stored locked when not in use Males represent (78.9%) of cases of traumatic intracranial hemorrhage and (51.7%) of pathological type.
