Abstract
The main aim of the work presented in this thesis is to study some general properties of a cold cathode, DC glow discharge plasma in two different regions: a dark space adjacent to the cathode surface (CDS) or sheath and a rather luminous part beyond it called the negative glow (NG), and to analyze the influence of external discharge parameters (geometry of the discharge tube, pressure of the working gas, type of gas, applied voltage, and the current flowing in the discharge) on the characteristics of the discharge.
