المستخلص Definite diagnosis of the nature of biliary stricture remains a challenge. Non invasive methods of diagnosis can give an idea about the extent of the stricture and whether there’s metastasis or not. Histopathological examination of tissues from strictures is the only definite diagnosis for malignancy; however it has a lot of technical difficulties and usually shows low sensitivity. This preliminary study aimed at assessment of the diagnostic accuracy of biliary introducer forceps biopsy through the Howell-Biliary introducer-1 and the spiral brush cytotology. The study was done on five patients with biliary strictures at different levels in the common bile duct (CBD) with good tissue acquisition in only three cases and none of the cases were proved to be malignant. We concluded that these measures couldn’t be used in routine screening for diagnosing CBD malignancies. |
