Abstract Azelnidipine and amlodipine are members of dihyDROPyridine (CCBs).This study was designed to investigate the cardiovascular and possible antioxidant effect of amlodipine and azelnidipine in STZ- induced diabetic rats. The results of the present study revealed that azelnidipine oral administration for 12 weeks produced significant decrease in SBP without tachycardia while amlodipine produced significant decrease in SBP with tachycardia. Azelnidipine produced significant increase in NO level compared to amlodipine. Both drug showed statistically insignificant reduction in blood glucose level and percentage of HbA1c with insignificant change in NADPH level. Azelnidipine showed anti atherosclerotic effect in histopathology of isolated aorta compared to amlodipine.further antioxidant studies need to be performed on both drugs. |
