Abstract

Abstract Amberlite XAD-4 resin was impregnated with D2EHPA (di-2-ethyl hexyl phosphoric acid. Systematic studies of D2EHPA impregnated XAD-4 were carried out using batch technique to develop optimum conditions for uranium(VI) sorption. Various parameters affecting the uptake of the metal ion such as diluents, D2EHPA concentration, contact time, V/m and pH value were separately studied. Effect of temperature on the equilibrium distribution values has been studied to evaluate the changes in standard thermodynamic quantities. The capacity of the impregnated resin for uranium(VI) was found to be 0.37 mmol/g. from the results, Amberlite XAD-4 impregnated with D2EHPA had good distribution coefficients for uranium(VI) was quantitatively sorbed from 0.3M H2SO4 and was recovered with 4M H2SO4 from the solid phase. The proposed separation of uranium(VI) from thoriumuranium concentrate obtained from alkaline leaching of Egyptian monazite is outlined.
