Professional development is considered an important tool by which individuals can improve their level of knowledge. Also, we live in a global society in which teachers should be aware of various fields of knowledge. So the government has to pay much attention to keep the continual professional development of foreign languages teachers to make them aware of the global changes.
The problem of the study:
Although any educational reform should work on education system comprehensively, a special attention should be directed to foreign languages teachers because they are responsible for preparing the students with the means by which they can communicate with the global world. Hence, they can get the information they need in order to increase their abilities and capabilities which build their characteristic.
Thus, the problem of the study can be formed at the following main question:
How can we develop secondary schools languages teachers professionally in the light of knowledge society requirements?
This question is branching out the following questions:
1- What is meant by teacher professional development and what are its field, aims, techniques and principals?
2- What is meant by knowledge society and what are its characteristics, requirements and its reflections on the roles of secondary schools languages teachers?
3- What are the efforts exerted to develop secondary schools languages teachers professionally?
4- What is the suggested perspective about how to develop secondary schools languages teachers professionally in the light of knowledge society requirements?
The objectives of the Study:
This research aims at:
1- Recognizing the definition of professional development and its fields, objectives and techniques.
2- To shed the light on the concept of knowledge society its characteristics, requirements and its reflections on the roles of secondary schools languages teachers.
3- Exploring the efforts exerted to develop secondary schools languages teachers professionally.
4- Presenting a suggestive perspective to develop secondary schools languages teachers professionally in the light of knowledge society requirements.
