Abstract
Soil pollution has recently been attracting considerable public attention since the magnitude of the problem in our soils calls for immediate action Garbisu and Alkosta 2003).Human activities such as mining industry and agriculture, lead to accelerated release of metals pollution. So it has become one of the most serious environmental problems today. Cultivation of crops in or close to contaminated sites may cause both growth inhibition and tissue accumulation of heavy metals in the edible plant parts, resulting in possible risks to humans and animal health. (Gupta and Gupta 1998; Jarup, 2003; Gisbert et al., 2006).
