Abstract

Thirty three Egyptian plants containing tannins were Dilected -#102;-#114;-#111;-#109; Upper Egypt provinces during summer season of 1992 cording to literature date. The plant materials eit±er fruits leaves were air dried in a well ventilated room, well grinded preserved in tightly closed containers and kept in air nditioned room (to avoid their deterioration by air humidity) Ltil they were used. The present studies were divided into two dn parts:In- br vivo:- This part was conducted at the clinic, Faculty of terinary Medicine, Assiut University, -#119;-#104;-#101;-#114;-#101; three clinically althy baladi sheep, 3-5 years age were selected for this periment. Three of the widely distributed plants containing innins viz leaves of Acacia nilotica, Acacia farnesiana and sbania sesban were chosen to study their effect on the faecal ora and blood picture of sheep under the test. The plant iterials were performed to the animals in certain amounts for rtain periods. Considerable numbers of faecal samples were liected before commencing the test in sterile plastic bags nged to the hind quarters of the animals to know the normal br ecal flora. Fresh green plant materials were performed to H irnals at 0.5 kg/100kg body weight every 48 hours for one month. br faecal samples were collected weekly throughout the period of periment besides two samples through the first week after inpietion of the experiment. Thirty grams of the faecal samples re suspended in 270 ml sterile saline to make basic suspension br 101. -#102;-#114;-#111;-#109; this basic dilution, ten fold serial dilution up to br -12 were made to know the total colony count.
