Abstract

Evaluation of some lipids such as cholesterol and triacyiglycerol especially in old ages is considered a positive risk factor for atherosclerosis and coronary artery diseases, since beef tallow is a rich source of cholesterol in human’s diet and the purchased fast preparing foods.
The use of nutritional supplement has been shown to be effective and safe in decreasing the higher serum levels of both cholesterol and TAG in hyperlipidemic patients.
The aim of this work is to investigate the biochemical effects of magnesium compound (Mg carbonate) and/or beef tallow in Newzaeland male rabbits on serum lipids profile; some liver and kidney functions; serum protein concentration; some serum enzyme activities as LDH, ALP, and GG-T; some serum mineral concentration as Ca, P, and Mg and serum testosterone concentration, also the liver tissues were collected for determination of the liver contents of lipid, proteins and moisture.
36 clinically healthy, 50 days old Newzaeland male rabbits were used in this study and divided into 4 groups, 9 animals each.
The first group served as a control, the second group received basal ration with 1.4 g Magnesium Carbonate/kg ration, the third group received basal ration supplemented with beef tallow 50 g/kg ration,, and the fourth group received basal ration supplemented with 1.4 g of MgCO3 and 50 g tallow /lcg ration.
Blood samles were collected via the ear vein at the 4th week and by slaughtering
of animals at the 8 week post experiment for determination of:
• serum lipid profiles (Total cholesterol, TAG, LDL-c, HDL-c, and VLDL-c).
• serum proteins (Total proteins, Albumin, and Globulin).
• some serum minerals (Calcium, Phosphorus, and Magnesium).
• kidney function ( serum Urea and Uric acid).
• liver function ( serum AST and ALT).
• some serum enzyme activities (LDH, GG-T, and ALP).
• serum testosterone concentration.
The results can be summarized as follows:
1- The serum total cholesterol were decreased significantly in the group kept on MgCO3 at the 4th week while, non-significantly increased in other treated groups. But at the 8th week were non-significantly decreased in the second and fourth groups ; non-significantly increased in the third group kept on tallow.
2- The serum triacyiglycerol were decreased significantly in the group kept on MgCO3 allover the experimental period, while, S.TAG were non-significantly increased at the 4th week and significantly increased at the 8th week in the group kept on tallow. Also, S.TAG were non-significantly decreased at the 4th week and non-significantly increased at the 8th week of administration post experiment in the group kept on MgCO3 plus tallow.
