differences in seed yield/feddan among the varieties studied were significant. Vidoc and Pioneer 6480 surpassed the other cultivars in their productivity of seed yield/feddan. Spacing within the row affected significantly seed yield/feddan in favour of the narrow spaclllg. The recommended fertigation rate favoured seed yield/feddan when compared with the other rates. The first order interaction of irrigation system x hybrid indicated that Pioneer 6480 had a high response to drip inigation as compared with the other cultivars. The interaction of spacing x genotype revealed that Phoebus and Bioseed hybrids responded to narrow spacing whereas Vidoc and Pioneer 6480 responded to wide spacing. The second order interaction of irrigation system x hybrid x spacing showed that Pionner 6480 and Bioseed produced high seed yield by using narrow spacing and drip irrigation system.
5 - Seed moisture percentage at different growth stages reacted significantly to irrigation system. The data showed that using drip irrigation produced the lowest seed moisture content at the age of 80 days from sowing to harvest when compared with the other systems. Pioneer 6480 produced the lowest seed moisture content at 80 days as compared with the other hybrids studied. Spacing within the row failed to show any significant response in tllis respect. The recOlmnended fertigation rate produced tlle lowest seed moishlre content at 80 days old,
6 - Oil percentage as well as oil yield/feddan responded significantly to irrigation systems in favour of drip irrigation. Varietal differences in tllis respect were significant. Bioseed hybrid produced the highest percentage of oiVseeds and the yield of oil per feddan. Wide spacing favoured oil percentage wllile the reverse was true with regard to oil
oil percentage and oil yield/feddan.
7 - The actual calculated ET or consumptive use reacted significantly to irrigation systems. The maximum ET was detected from surface irrigation which amounted to 2635.63 and 2771.12 m3/feddan in 1997 and 1998 seasons, respectively whereas drip irrigation was characterized by the minimum mean values of ET which were 1647.23 and 1701.07 m3/feddan in 1997 and 1998 seasons, respectively. Accordingly the water use efficiency (WUE) was the maxImum III case of drip irrigation ~hich amounted to 0.71 and 0.55 kgfm3 in 1997 and 1998 seasons, respectively. On the contrary surface irrigation was characterized by the minimum water use efficiency which amounted 0.43 and 0.33 kgfm3 in 1997 and 1998 seasons, respectively. Varietal differences in tins respect were significant. The ET required to Bioseed hybrid was the lowest as compared to tile other cultivars whereas the reverse was true with regard to Pioneer 6480. Therefore, the WUE of Bioseed was the maximum which were 0.63 and 0.49 kgfm3 in 1997 and 1998 seasons, respectively. The narrow spacing consumed more amount of evapotranspiration (ET) when compared with wider one.
