Abstract

This study was carried out during the two successive growth seasons at the Floriculture nursery at the Experimental farm, Faculty of Agriculture, Minia University to study the effect of bio-mineral N, mineral N fertilization and salicylic and ascorbic acids treatments on the vegetative growth, oil yield and chemical composition of geranium plants. Also, the interaction between the two factors (A×B) was studied. The experiment was arranged in a split-plot design with three replicates. The treatments were conducted as follow : -
Main plots treatments (A) :
- Control without any fertilization, mineral N 25 %, 50 %, 75 % were (100, 200, 300 kg / fed. / year) , respectively + nitrobein (4 kg / fed.) and mineral N (100 %) were (400 kg / fed. / year).
Sub plots treatments (B) :
- Control (spraying with distilled water), Salicylic acid at 100, 200 and 300 ppm and Ascorbic acid at 100, 200 and 300 ppm.
The plants in two seasons were harvested in two times / season i.e. May 24th and September 24th in the first and second seasons. from results could be recommended that fertilizing geranium plants with 75 % mineral nitrogen (300 kg / fed. / season) plus nitrobein (4 kg / fed.) in combination with ascorbic acid (300 ppm) instead of fertilizing with recommended mineral N (400 kg / fed / season) plus ascorbic acid (300 ppm) which gave similar vegetative growth and essential oil yield / plant and / fed.
