المستخلص Keratoconus is a non-inflammatory, progressive bilateral corneal disorder with localized conical protrusion of the cornea. Circular keratotomy is a new surgical technique aimed at reshaping cornea under keratoscopic control and flattening the soft corneal tissues to decrease asymmetric astigmatism. Patients & methods: In this study, circular keratotomy was applied to 30 cases of 25 keratoconus patients with contact lens intolerance & central corneal thickness>400µm.Incision was performed to 90% of corneal depth & suturing with single 10/ nylon running sutures. Results: showed significantly reduced corneal steepening & reduction of astigmatism. The maximum improvement in the visual acuity & reduction in K-readings occurred 6 months following the procedure. Conclusion: Circular keratotomy is a relatively effective procedure in visual rehabilitation of a formally disabled keratoconus patient. |
