Abstract

Telecommuting is growing in the developed world. Thousands of companies today are experiencing the usefulness of telecommuting adoption as an alternative work arrangement. However, for most developing countries telecommuting is a new concept. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the possibility of applying telecommuting inside the Egyptian enviroment by looking at the factors that affect managers and subordinates’ intentions to adopt such a concept in 10th of Ramadan city of Egypt. The survey method is used for collecting data for analysis by using two technology adoption questionnaires with usable data. Results revealed that subordinates have a reltaively high intention to work from home on a part time basis however, managers’ intention to allow their employees to work from home is low which in turn is expected to hinder attempts to apply telecommuting as an alternative work arrangement in the 10th of Ramadan city of Egypt.
