Abstract The importance of red meat is due to the fact that it contains protein of high biological value and essential animal fats in addition to vitamins and mineral salts. Percapita consumption of meat in Egypt is negatively affected by the shortage meat production compared with consumption needs. This situation causes distortion of nutritional standard implication on human health and well being. Inspite of the slight increase in the annual rate of production increase of meat, however it is not able to cope with annual consumption increase due to increase of consumers, relative increase in real percapita incomes and the tendency of consumption pattern toward meat. The current study aims at shedding lights on various aspects of supplying .red meat in Egypt especially those related to inter anI produc¬tion possibilities, price polices, market structures, consumption, espaci¬ties and the role of both local production and imports.
