Abstract this study aims to review the different methods used in diagnosis of wuchereria bancrofti filariasis . Dissection of female mosquitoes for filarial larvae has been used as a diagnostic tool for assessing presence of filarial infection and for monitoring the progress of control programmes in endemic areas. A major advantage of this method is that it allows calculation of entomological measures of transmission intensity in endemic areas (McMahon et al., 2000). For control of filariasis, combinations of drugs are now being used the combination of diethylcarbamazine and albendazole which eliminates microfilariae for one year. Vector control successfully eliminated lymphatic filariasis when used with mass drug administration (Gyapong and Twum-Danso, 2006). |
